Sahti

Sahti

Traditional Häme-style sahti brewed using traditional methods.

Sahti is a traditional Finnish unfiltered beer made primarily from barley malt (with a small amount of rye malt), and sometimes wheat and oats. Sahti is fermented with fresh yeast and is often flavored with juniper branches or juniper berries, and occasionally with hops. It is estimated that sahti has been brewed for more than 2,000 years, which is why it can be considered an ancient beer.

In the Forssa region, sahti has been brewed for centuries for various celebrations and important occasions. It is also said that the daily ration of the Hakkapeliitta cavalry included as much as 5 liters of beer (sahti). The brewing tradition of sahti has been preserved most extensively in Kanta-Häme, Päijät-Häme, and Northern Satakunta.

Sahti is a fresh product that is usually enjoyed relatively soon after brewing and served as cold as possible.

Forssa Pilsner Fabrik’s sahti is brewed according to the local tradition, honoring the heritage of sahti brewers in the Kanta-Häme region.
